Georgia Allen

Georgia Louise Allen, formerly of Rolling Meadows, IL passed away Sunday, December 28, 2014, in Barrington, IL. She was born on March 23, 1925 in, Bismarck, ND.

Georgia Bohrer spent her happy childhood in Jamestown, North Dakota. She met her husband, Robert Allen, at a Jamestown World War II USO event in 1943. On January 4, 1944, they were married in Montana. Georgia travelled with Robert in the US as he completed training as a B-24 Bombardier. After WWII, she worked as a bookkeeper in Grand Forks, ND until her husband graduated from college. As Robert started his career, the couple moved to Kentucky, Montana, and North Dakota before moving to Minnesota. In 1955, Georgia and Robert moved to Rolling Meadows, IL with their young family. The couple remained residents of Rolling Meadows for 55 years. During those years, Georgia was active in the PTA and the Northwest Community Hospital Auxiliary from the 1950’s to the 1970’s. In the early 1970s, she re-entered the workforce and became a bookkeeper for Design and Build in Rolling Meadows. In the mid-1970s to the 1980s, Georgia worked for Zurich American Insurance in Schaumburg. After she retired, Georgia split her time between traveling the world with her husband and volunteering, as a Senior Net computer skills instructor, a State of Illinois Ombudsman for nursing home patients, and working for the Rolling Meadows House Museum. In January 2014, Georgia and Robert celebrated their 70th anniversary before he passed away a few weeks later.

Georgia is survived by her sons, Robert C. (Ginna) Allen, and Richard L. (Lorna) Allen; and her four grandchildren, Kristen, Cortney (Jeff), Jim, and Jackie Allen.

Georgia was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, and her parents, Charles and Ella Bohrer.

Visitation will be Saturday, January 3, 2015, from 2 p.m. until the time of service at 4 p.m., at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 149 W. Main St. (Lake-Cook Road), Barrington.

Burial will be held in the spring at Evergreen Cemetery, Barrington.
