Davenport Barrington

Geraldine Beryl Nerby was a caring wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She left this world suddenly on December 23 at the age of 82.

Geri was born July 2, 1939 in Wisconsin. At a very young age her family moved to Chicago and lived in Logan Square where she graduated from Tuley High School. She met her high school sweetheart, Mel, whom she married on September 7, 1957. Together they had three children, Steve, Scott and Shawn.

Geri loved spending time in the kitchen. At a young age she earned the nickname “Cookie”. The boys always had homemade cookies growing up. At age 40 Geri earned her RN (Registered Nurse) degree, where she spent the next 30 years working as a Visiting Nurse and volunteering as a Nurse. She volunteered with the Red Cross on many disaster relief projects beginning with Hurricane Hugo in 1989. She was at the World Trade Center on September 12, 2001 for over a month helping with the disaster from 9/11. Geri eventually worked as a Director for the Red Cross in Las Cruces, NM for over 10 years.

In addition to her loving husband, Geri is survived by her sons, Steve, Scott (Cathy) and Shawn (Beth) Nerby; 8 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren; her brothers, Donald and Alan (Janice) Giles; and by nieces, nephews and friends.
