A child of God and beloved matriarch, Gerda Schak entered the Church Triumphant and the presence of our Lord on January 27, 2022.
Born Gerda Isenberg in the small farming village of Landau in Germany in 1930, Gerda had a humble beginning as a farmer’s daughter. She met the love of her life, Donald S. Schak after WWII and emigrated to the United States in 1951. For the next 20 years she was a devoted mother and homemaker. After her husband changed careers, Gerda assisted him in building a real estate management company. Even after achieving financial independence, Gerda remained humble and sociable, loved by all who knew her. She was a member of a social sorority in the Chicago area during the late 1960’s.
After retirement Gerda and Donald traveled extensively, enjoying sea cruises around the world. She enjoyed her final years at the Garlands retirement community where she made many dear friends and was preceded in death by her husband Donald in 2012 after nearly 65 years of marriage.
Gerda is survived by her son Harold H. Schak and daughter-in-law Martha Schak; son Donald B. Schak Sr., and daughter-in-law Sherry; and her daughter Debi Schak. She was blessed with many grandchildren and great grandchildren who will miss her dearly.
Gerda was a life-long Lutheran Christian and passed peacefully from this life secure in the knowledge of her eternal destiny with our Lord Jesus Christ.
A memorial and celebration of life will be held at Davenport Funeral Home, 149 W. Main St (Lake Cook Road) Barrington on Friday, February 4, 2022. Visitation will be from 3-6pm with a eulogy at 6pm.
