Born July 20, 1929 in Chicago, the daughter of Glendon and Mabel (nee Eastman) French, she passed away surrounded by her loving daughters on Monday, November 21, 2016 at JourneyCare Hospice in Barrington at the age of 87. Trudy grew up in Park Ridge and was a 1946 graduate of Main Township High School. She went on to receive a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from Elmira College in New York. After raising 5 children, she continued her career in nursing at Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington.
Following her retirement, Trudy kept busy. She played golf 3 times a week on numerous leagues, and maintained an excellent bowling average. As an avid gardener she was a long-standing member of the Green Thumbs Garden Club and passed the love of gardening onto her daughters. She traveled the world to places like China, Russia, Morocco, and many others, often with her companion of many years, Charlie Schmidt. She was a long-time member of the Lutheran Church of Atonement in Barrington where she was a member of many committees and taught Sunday School for many years. Above all, Trudy will be fondly remembered for her wonderful smile that could light up a room and her contagious laugh.
Trudy is survived by her children, Sue (Tony) Salvato, Randall (Lori) Stofft, Cynthia Stofft, Linda Salcedo, and Gary (Kim) Stofft; her grandchildren, Lauren (Brian) Splitt, Tom (Lauren) Holland, Chris Salcedo, Curtis Salcedo, Kinsley Stofft, Kelsey Stofft, Taylor Stofft, and Hunter Stofft; and her six beautiful great-grandchildren; her brother, Glendon French; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Suzanne.
Friends may visit with Trudy’s family on Friday, December 2, 2016 beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Lutheran Church of the Atonement, 909 E Main St (Lake-Cook Rd) Barrington with her Memorial Service beginning at 11:00 a.m.
Memorial donations may be made in her memory to Lutheran Church of the Atonement.
