Gertrude Thiess

The funeral Mass for Gertrude "Trudy" Thiess (nee Schomburg), 85, formerly of Tower Lakes, will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, April 9, 2010, at St. Anne Church, 120 Ela St. (at the corner of Franklin St.), Barrington, where there will be visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass. Interment will be private. There will also be visitation from 3-8 p.m., Thursday, April 8, 2010, at the Davenport Family Funeral Home, 149 W. Main St. (Lake-Cook Road), Barrington. Born May 2, 1924, in Chicago, she passed away Friday, April 2, 2010, at her home. She was a graduate of the Academy of Our Lady, Chicago, and attended DePaul University, Chicago. Mrs. Thiess worked at Condell Medical Center in Libertyville for over 25 years, and retired as Director of Public Relations in 1991. Mrs. Thiess enjoyed spending time with her many friends at Spring Meadows at Libertyville, and with her 10 grandchildren. Survivors include her children, William J. (Stephanie) of Saline, MI, Karen (Gene Heike) Gill of Grayslake, Gail (Joseph) Began of Dewitt, MI, Gregory (Julie) of Naperville, Mary Joan (Louis Bossier) Greffin of Rancho Santa Margerita, CA, and Suzanne (Kai) Fenske of Savage, MN; 10 grandchildren; siblings, Eugene J. Schomburg of Rochester, NY, and Elinor Ann Palm of Country Club Hills. Mrs. Thiess was preceded in death by her husband, William J.; parents, George and Eleanore (nee Fitzpatrick); and brothers, The Reverend George L. and William R. Schomburg.
