Giles L. Koerber, age 82, passed away peacefully on Tuesday October 26, 2021 with his loving daughters and partner by his side.
Giles was born in Chicago, IL on May 8, 1939. After graduating high school and spending time in the Navy, he began his career as a union elevator mechanic apprentice before working his way up to the position of regional manager. In 1962, he married his wife, Barbara, and together they proudly raised two daughters.
He had a love for golf and social gatherings, especially at his favorite spot with friends at Villa Bleu. Giles was extremely proud of his grandchildren and rarely missed any of their many sporting events or recitals. He enjoyed being a snow-bird with Dorothy and their dog, Herman, and spending the winters in Florida. Giles had a passion for traveling. He went to many unique places such as Dubai, Egypt and Jerusalem and treasured the yearly trips to Las Vegas with his daughters.. His long story-telling, sense of humor, and kind heart will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Giles is survived by his loving children, Caroline (Michael) Baumgart and Jennifer (Patrick) Rocen; his partner of 17 years, Dorothy Sullivan; grandchildren, Shelly, Samantha, Patrick, Jack, and Charlie; and great-grandchild, Mia.
Preceded in death by his beloved wife of 41 years, Barbara Koerber; parents, Charles and Martha; siblings, Lorraine, Chuck, Roger, and Cyril.
A visitation for Giles will be held from 4pm until 8pm on Monday, November 1, 2021 at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 149 West Main Street, Barrington, IL. A second visitation will take place the following morning at the funeral home from 8am until prayers at 9:15am followed by an 10am funeral mass at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 410 North First Street in Cary, IL. A burial will be held privately at a later date.
