CRYSTAL LAKE—Glen Arthur Gieseke,85, of Crystal Lake, died Wednesday, August 8, 2012.
He was born November 17,1926, to Arthur and Edna (nee Rodewald) Gieseke of Mt. Prospect. On May 9,1953, he married Nancy Nelson in Palatine.
Mr. Gieseke attended Crystal Lake area schools and was a life-long member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Crystal Lake until his death. He was a mechanic for John Deere Implement Dealers in Crystal Lake, Huntley and Hampshire for his entire career. He served on various committees over the years in his church and on the Prairie Grove School Board. He was a member of the Northern Illinois 2 Cylinder Club.
Mr. Gieseke is survived by his wife of 59 years, Nancy; two sons, David A. (Melody) Gieseke of Crystal Lake and Donald A. (Brenda) Gieseke of Hannibal, MO; six grandchildren, Timothy, Randy (Jamie) and Brittany Gieseke of Crystal Lake, JaLynn, KayLan and ‘Lliot Gieseke of Hannibal; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Victor (Ruth) Gieseke.
He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed fixing things, particularly for his children, grandchildren, friends and family. Doing for others brought him the greatest pleasure.
The visitation will be Friday, August 10, from 3-8 p.m., at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave. (Route 176), Crystal Lake and Saturday, August 11, from 12:30 p.m., until the time of funeral at 1 p.m., at Immanuel Lutheran Church (Historic Campus), 178 McHenry Ave., Crystal Lake. Pastor Larry Tieman will officiate. Burial will follow at Windridge Memorial Park in Cary.
