Glenn Brian Hofstra

February 15, 1945 — July 21, 2021

Davenport Barrington

Glenn Brian Hofstra, born in 1945 in Chicago, travelled north on July 21st.

Glenn was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Lambert and Margaret (Belgrave) Hofstra, infant daughter Kate, and brother Dr. John Hofstra.

Glenn grew up in Riverside, Illinois and graduated from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. He moved to Oak Brook, Illinois when he married his wife, Billie Jean. They went on to have four children: Billie Kate, Katherine, Jorie, and Glenn.

After his military service, Glenn worked as a manager and buyer for Sears Roebuck for several years. Taking a bold leap, he and his wife struck out on their own, creating not one but two businesses from the ground up, the latter being an antique and collectible business.

One of Glenn's best attributes was his great enthusiasm for life. He had a plethora of interests, including travelling both domestically and internationally. He was a lover of antiques and collectibles, a Frank Lloyd Wright fan, an amateur volcanologist, founder of the Commeford method, a deltiologist, and a true bibliophile.

Glenn was known as a kind-hearted, loyal, generous man with a great sense of humor and a heart of gold. He was a storyteller, a gift giver, and a sucker for a good joke.

He truly took the time to stay in touch with people. Glenn was an avid reader of the Chicago Tribune and was well-known for mailing people clippings that he thought they would enjoy. He valued relationships and would talk to friends and family often. Glenn was a great husband, father, and friend. He was one of a kind and will be treasured forever.

A celebration of life will be held August 4th at Beelow's Steakhouse, Lake Zurich, 4 to 8 p.m.

If you wish, donations may be made in Glenn's name to The Chicago Lighthouse or a charity of your choice.
