Crystal Lake, Illinois,GRANT EUGENE MILNER Grant Eugene Milner passed from this life on July 30,2010, at home, surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. Grant was born on November 14, 1945 in Bingham Canyon, Utah, to Grant B. and Viola (MacNeil) Milner, who both preceded him in death. In his early years, Grant was active in sports, from Little League teams to high school athletics at Bingham High School where he graduated in 1964. Grant served as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Australia from 1966 to 1968. After returning from Australia, he enrolled in Utah State University where he met Bonnie D. McDonald and they were married in the Salt Lake City Temple on September 19, 1969, for time and eternity. Grant graduated from Weber State in 1971 with his bachelor?s degree in computer science and pursued employment in Chicago. Grant worked for Hewlett Packard with systems integration and maintenance in Chicago and Atlanta, Georgia, until his retirement in 2002. Grant continued to be active after his retirement by consulting for Sunburst Shutters and International Health Management, playing on softball teams, bicycling, downhill skiing, and running and keeping up with his 12 grandchildren. Grant loved his family and friends; he enjoyed many great memories with them throughout the years. Grant was an active member of the Crystal Lake 1st Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served others for many years. He volunteered his time by helping everyone from the young to the elderly and loved the great happiness it brought him. Grant is survived by his wife Bonnie, with whom he shared nearly 41 years of marriage; his four children, Lance (Sarah) Milner of Chandler, Arizona, Lori (Matt) Thelander of Crystal Lake, Lisa (Matt) Clark of Huntley, and Lindsey (Chris) Larson of Algonquin; along with 12 grandchildren and his sister, Norma Nebeker. He was preceded in death by his parents and by a grandson, Cody Thelander. A viewing will be held from 5-8pm, Sunday, Aug. 1, at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 419 E Terra Cotta Ave (Rt 176), Crystal Lake. Funeral services will be held at 10am, Monday, Aug. 2, at the Crystal Lake Building of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 5209 Walkup Rd, Crystal Lake. Burial will follow at Windridge Memorial Park Cemetery, 7014 W Rawson Bridge Rd, Cary.
