Gregory F. Leydig, beloved son of Frederick and Patricia Leydig, fell victim to pancreatic cancer on Friday, October 15th. He would have turned 60 on the 27th of this month. Greg grew up in Arlington Heights, Illinois. He attended St. Viator for two years where he was on the tennis and swim teams. He then transferred to Wayland Academy in Beaver Dam Wisconsin where he was on the football and tennis teams. After Wayland Greg attended Lawrence University, Harper College and the University of Arizona in each of which he was active in drama. He left Arizona before graduation to go to Hollywood where he spent the next several years in various TV shows and films. He then became a professional tennis player. Following a period in which he competed in the tour, he became a teaching pro at several top Florida clubs and resorts. For a time he served as a highly trained lifeguard on both of Florida?s coasts. In later years he concentrated on his true loves?music and art?becoming extremely proficient in both. Greg leaves behind, in addition to his parents, his heart-broken sisters, Deborah Pfaff and Suzann Schubring, brother Gary, brothers-in-law Bruce Pfaff and Lothar Schubring and sister-in-law Laurie Leydig, as well as his nieces and nephews. Visitation is Thursday, October 21, from 5-8 p.m., at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 149 W. Main St. (Lake-Cook Rd.), Barrington, Illinois, and from 9 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial is celebrated on Friday, October 22, at 10 a.m. at St. Anne Church, 120 Ela St. (at the corner of Franklin St.), Barrington.
