Hans J. Midunsky, a resident of Tower Lakes for the last 50 years, passed away peacefully at his home on March 3, 2017 at the age of 88. He was born February 25, 1929 in Germany, the son of the late Karl and Mathilde Midunsky.
Early in life, Hans was enlisted in the German Army during the Second World War. Following the war, Hans would marry the love of his life, Elisabeth Gassner, on December 23, 1955 in Alexandria, Virginia.
He was later employed with Lufthansa Airlines as Airline Management, where he was known affectionately as the “Red Baron of Chicago.” He retired from Lufthansa Airlines in 1992.
Mostly, Hans truly enjoyed spending his time with his wife and family.
In addition to his loving wife, Elisabeth, Hans is survived by his daughters, Linda (Richard) Stienstra and Michelle (Steve) Kohlhagen; his grandchildren, Richard (Denise), Trisha (Bjorn), Derek (Lisa), Carl (Cindy), and Brittany (Trevor); siblings, Maria (the late Frank) Scheelen, Karl (Molly) Heinz Midunsky, and Georg (Elke) Midunsky; and additionally many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Brigitte (Otto) Bosch.
Visitation will take place Wednesday, March 8, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 149 W Main St (Lake-Cook Rd) Barrington. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Barrington.
