Harjit Singh, 76, passed away peacefully on June 14, 2019 in Barrington. He was born on June 3, 1943 in India.
Harjit received his Electrical Engineering degree from Delhi College of Engineering. He was a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of IL. He had professional affiliation with the Institute of Electrical Engineers, and National Society of Professional Engineers.
He had 45 years of building design experience, including Electrical Power Distribution, Lighting Systems, Fire Alarm, Pump Station Electrical Design, Runway Taxiway Lighting, Roadway Lighting, Emergency Backup System, and design for Tollways. He had established the Electrical design standards for Illinois Tollway.
His dedication to his work and mastery in his craft was exemplified in numerous projects for different agencies such as IDOT, IL Tollway, Chicago Department of Aviation, METRA, CTA, CDB, CDOT, Chicago Public Schools, Chicago Park District, Chicago Riverwalk, Chicago Courthouse and O’Hare Airport.
He was a most devoted husband, a loving father and a doting grandfather. He was extremely humble in person with a very sharp intellect.
Harjit will be deeply missed by his devoted wife of 47 years, Rubinder Kaur Singh, with whom he was united in marriage on May 30, 1972 in New Delhi, India; his loving children, Navjot Singh and her husband, Malvinder Singh Virdi of Round Lake, IL and Kulbir Singh and his wife Monita P. Singh of Buffalo Grove, IL; cherished grandsons, Gurnoor Virdi, Prabhjaap Singh and Gursimar Virdi; his father, Dalip Singh; and by numerous friends and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Dalip Kaur.
Cremation ceremony will be Sunday, June 16, 2019 from 1 PM until 3 PM at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 941 S. Old Rand Rd., Lake Zurich, IL 60047.
