The funeral service for Harold Ernest Nicodem,86, will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, January 5, at Bethel Community Church, 7601 W. Foster Ave., Chicago, IL 60656, where there will be visitation from 9 a.m. until the time of service. The burial will be private in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood.
There will also be a visitation from 4-8 p.m., Friday, January 4, at the Davenport Family Funeral Home, 149 W. Main St. (Lake-Cook Road), Barrington.
Born May 8,1926, in Darjeeling, India to missionary parents, he passed away Tuesday, January 1,2013, at the Pepper Family Hospice Home, Barrington.
Mr. Nicodem attended The Woodstock School, in Mussoorie, India, and came to the United States in 1942. He served as a Marine during World War II (1943-1946), and was in the 3rd Battalion, 6th Marines, 2nd Marine Division. Upon his honorable discharge, he attended Wheaton College. On December 18,1946, he married his loving wife of 66 years, Margery (nee Knecht) in the Midwest Bible Church, Chicago.
Mr. Nicodem had a long, successful career in insurance and real estate, enjoyed botany and gardening, was a board member of Timber-lee Christian Center in East Troy, WI, was a longtime Deacon and Sunday School Superintendent at Bethel Community Church, but most of all he loved spending time with his family.
Mr. Nicodem was a faithful follower and servant of Jesus Christ.
In addition to his wife, Margery, survivors include his children, Phyllis “Nicole” (Paul) Jacobs, Carolyn (Chuck) Hall, Janet (Randy) Smith, Leslie (Ken) Olsen, and Harold “Harry” Nicodem, Jr.; grandchildren, Tracy, John, Matthew, Charlie, Bryan, Audrey, Jennifer, Erik, Ruth, Beth, Lindy, Amy, and Tyler; numerous great-grandchildren; and by brother, Frank (Jo) D. Nicodem.
He was preceded in death by his grandson, Kenny Olsen, parents, and brothers and sisters.
