Harry C. Wetekam, Jr., 88, of Crystal Lake, passed away on Ash Wednesday, February 13, 2013. His loving wife of 64 years was by his side.
A friend to all he encountered, Harry was born April 5, 1924 in Detroit, Michigan and spent most of his early years in Cincinnati, Ohio.
He was an insurance agent in Crystal Lake from 1973 until his retirement and was a very active member of First Congregational Church; Crystal Lake for the past forty years.
During World War II, Harry served with the U.S. Army on troop transports and completed 36 crossings of the Atlantic during and immediately after the War. That experience gave him a lifelong love for ships and the sea.
Harry is survived by his wife Ruth (nee Varnau); three children, Donald (Sheri) of Oklahoma City, OK, James (Nijjy) of Victoria, British Columbia, and Nancy Muniz (John) of Crystal Lake; six grandchildren, Noelle, Daniel, Sarah, LeAna, Adam, and Andrew; five great-grandchildren; and numerous friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service will be held at First Congregational Church in Crystal Lake at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, February 18.
