Hazel Willey

Hazel M. Willey, 100, of Bartlett, IL, elementary teacher for over 37 years, passed away Friday, November 1, 2013.

She was born to Robert and Winifred Myers, on a farm in Colchester, Illinois, August 30, 1913. She attended high school at Colchester High School and Western Academy. In 1956 she received a Bachelor of Education Degree from Western Illinois University. On June 1, 1940 she married Merrill Willey in Washington, D.C.

Hazel is survived by her loving children, Gloria Roux of Wauconda, IL and Dr. Robert Willey of Dallas, OR; five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Noreen Willey; three sisters and three brothers.

Mrs. Willey taught in elementary schools in Colchester and in Fairview and Rolling Green Schools of Rockford. She also worked for the United States Government in Washington D.C. from 1938-1944. After retiring in 1978 she served as a volunteer at the Rockford Memorial Hospital for eighteen years. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Barrington and the Illinois Retired Teachers Association.

Visitation will be held Saturday, Nov. 23 from 12 p.m. until the time of service at 2 p.m., at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 149 W Main St. (Lake-Cook Rd.), Barrington.

A Graveside Service will be held Sunday, Nov. 24, 1 p.m. at West Bethel Cemetery, Fandon, IL.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Rockford Rescue Mission, P.O. Box 1958, Rockford, IL 61110.
