Helen Brauch (nee Scott), age 91, of Lake Barrington, IL passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, March 4, 2025.
Helen was born in Trinidad and Tobago on August 12, 1933. An avid book reader and storyteller from a young age, her biggest adventure began on a trip to the U.S. in 1954 to visit her brother where she met the love of her life, Robert Brauch. From there, over the next seven decades, her story and family grew. She loved spending time in Door County surrounded by her loved ones, recounting stories from her youth, playing tennis, sewing many outfits including special occasion dresses for her daughters, cheering on her children & grandkids in their many sports, gardening, playing scrabble and bridge, volunteering at House of Hope, and teaching Christianity to children through both CCD and Children’s Liturgy, while also mentoring Pre-Cana couples during their marriage preparation. Helen’s deep faith and love of Jesus was central to who she was and how she lived her life. Even after passing, her stories and memories continue on in the lives of those she leaves behind.
Helen is survived by her loving children, Mary (Tom) Afflerbach, Claire (the late Phil) Quinn, Jayne (Sam) Haller, Kristin (John) Plescia, Beth Gavin, Kay (Chris) Carley, Marty (Jen) Brauch, John (Jenny) Brauch and Rob (Kelly) Brauch; 29 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; brothers, Andrew Scott and Lawrence Scott.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 63 years, Robert Brauch; parents, Frederick and Helene Scott; brothers, John Scott, Michael Scott, Philip Scott and Quentin Scott.
