McHenry, Illinois,Services for Helen Kalland (nee Ness), 83, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, at St. Paul United Church of Christ, 401 E. Main St. (Lake-Cook Road), Barrington, IL 60010 where there will be visitation from 9 a.m. until the time of the services. The Rev. Jana Chwalisz will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Barrington. Born August 10 1925, in Brainerd, Minn., she passed away Monday, March 14, 2011, at Fox Point Manor, McHenry. Mrs. Kalland was a longtime member of St. Paul UCC, where she especially enjoyed her involvement with the Women?s Fellowship group. She loved music, gardening, walking, reading, traveling with her husband, and spending time with her granddaughters. Mrs. Kalland was always an upbeat and positive person who, even with dementia, was able to lift the spirits of the staff and other residents at Fox Point Manor. Survivors include son, Michael (Mary Chris) Kalland of Algonquin; grandchildren, Melissa (Jeffrey) Reed, and Heather, Colleen and Natasha Kalland; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carroll; son, James; and sisters, Betty (Francis) Granger and Phyllis (Arthur) Wing. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Mrs. Kalland?s name may be made to the church.
