Helen Josephine Mazur, age 97, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 27, 2021.
Helen was born on July 6, 1923. She grew up on a farm in Engadine, a small town in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula with two older sisters and attended a one-room Elementary School house. She later moved to Chicago with her sisters to attend Amundsen High School and sang with Big Band orchestras during summer school vacations when returning to the U.P. to help out on the farm. Helen’s work career spanned 65 years in various positions of information technology. She also worked part-time as a waitress in private catering and banquet events. Growing up with an assortment of farm and domestic animals, Helen has been an avid animal lover her entire life. She will be dearly missed by all family, friends, dogs, cats, and feathered friends who knew her.
Helen is survived by her loving daughter, Sharon (Kevin) Ramon nee Mazur of Barrington, IL; her nieces, Patricia Held, Joyce Koenig, Arlene Bracken, Linda Huth, Marianne O’Neill, and Barbara Waldron; and nephew, John Mazur.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edward A. Mazur; parents, Walter and Josephine Tomaszewski; sisters, Irene Rzadzki and Angela Paluch; brother, Frank Ziomek; and mother-in-law, Hattie Mazur.
A visitation for Helen will be held from 9:30am until the time of the Funeral Mass at 10:30am on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at St. Anne Catholic Community, 120 N. Ela Street, Barrington, IL. Burial to follow at Maryhill Catholic Cemetery in Niles, IL.
