Henry Tonigan, II

Henry “Hank” Tonigan II, born 4th generation Waukegan, passed away Tuesday,
April 1, 2014 one day before his 89th birthday in Barrington.

He was born April 2, 1925 in Waukegan to Henry and Wilma Tonigan. Hank was an Eagle Scout and avid supporter of Boys Scouts of America. Hank married his college sweetheart, Jean Schroeder of Rantoul, IL, June of 1947. He enlisted in the Navy during WWII where he served as a weatherman on the USS Intrepid. After his naval service, he graduated from the University of Illinois [M.E.] and Northwestern University [MBA]. Hank was a Plant Manager for US Steel, and Ozite Manufacturing. He was a proud owner of Profile Publications and Red Line Litho (Crystal Lake), for whom he received numerous Chamber of Commerce awards. Hank was an avid nature enthusiast, golfer, as well as a 32nd degree Mason [Rising Sun Lodge]. He was a past president of two Lutheran Congregational Churches in
Waukegan and Barrington.

Hank will be dearly missed by his son, Henry “Skip” (Rebecca) Tonigan III; his loving grandchildren, Henry “Hawk” Tonigan IV, and Alexandria C. Tonigan; many nieces and nephews as well as great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, loving wife, Jean; daughter, Connie; granddaughter, Brandy; brothers, Bud and Dick Tonigan; sisters, Joy Weeks, Louise Simshauser, and Marilyn “Ducky” Lea; of whom all were waiting with open arms for another family reunion and party with Hank and his ukulele.

Visitation will be held Thursday, April 3 from 4-8 p.m. at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 149 W Main St (Lake-Cook Rd) Barrington, IL 60010. A brief visitation will be held the following day, Friday April 4 from 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Private family burial will follow at Pine View Cemetery in Beach Park, IL. Hank requests that you wear your most colorful, spring attire.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Hank’s name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Greater Illinois Chapter, 8430 W. Bryn Mawr, Suite 800, Chicago, IL 60631 or to the Doug Hudson Scholarship Fund, 160 Biltmore Dr., Barrington, IL 60010.
