Henry B. Niemeyer, 97, of Woodstock passed away peacefully on May 19, 2016. His gentle passing into eternity reflected just who he was.
Henry was born on September 24, 1918 in Oak Park to Henry Sr. and Louisa (nee Messner) Niemeyer. He attended the Epheta School for the Deaf in Chicago from 1924 – 1933 and Illinois State School for the Deaf in Jacksonville, IL from 1933-1940. Henry was baptized in 1940 and was a faithful member of Our Savior Lutheran Church for the Deaf in Chicago for over 60 years and Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Cary for the past 10 years. He was very active on state and national levels for the Lutheran Deaf Association and was a member of Illinois Association of Deaf, Chicago Club for Deaf, local “Division Number One” of the National Fraternal Society of Deaf. He loved travelling, was an avid lifelong Chicago Cubs and Bears fan and had more friends than anyone could count. Henry’s life was a true testimony of his strong faith molding him into a man of strong but gentle character.
Henry will be deeply missed by his loving children, Donald Niemeyer and Cynthia (the late Ray) Stuck; cherished grandchildren, Benjamin (Lisa) Stuck, Amanda (Christopher) Wynkoop, Shannon (Joe) Perez and Paul Niemeyer; beloved sister, Marion Fazio, great-grandchildren, Delaney and Lucie Perez, Henry, Samuel and Molly Wynkoop, Amanda Niemeyer, Mikaela, Norah and Judah Stuck. Loving uncle to many. He was preceded in death by his dear wife of 66 years, Mary and by his parents.
Services and interment will be privately held.
