Herman H. Skogh (Hal), age 86, passed away suddenly in his home in Barrington on August 7. He was born May 3 1934 in Viroqua, Wi to Olgert and Georgia Halverson one of six siblings. Adopted by Clifford and Frances Skogh he came to live with them in Cary on the Fox River. He graduated Crystal Lake Community High School in 1952 where he was an outstanding athlete in football, basketball and track and ski jumped at Norge.  He earned a BS in Aeronautical Engineering from the University of Colorado (Sigma Chi Fraternity and Freshman football).

Hal served his country as a 1st Lieutenant U.S. Army Corps of Engineers stationed in Korea. He was employed in engineering at American Can Company, Bendix Aviation, and the Wilhold Company before joining and eventually owning United Products Company, a major distributer of electronics to the radio and television industry.

Hal met his beloved wife Barbara (nee Wilson) at college and they married in New York following his return from Korea. Living for a time in Lewisberg, Pa., they eventually settled in Barrington. Married for 57 loving and happy years Barb passed away in 2017,  they leave three sons.

Hal was an accomplished golfer and carried a low handicap at several local courses. He will be remembered for his love of storytelling and spending time with his friends and family. His favorite tale being of when he scored the first two points in the Crystal Lake High School’s win over the Hebron High Schools 1952 State Basketball Champions.  An avid sports fan he followed closely the fortunes of the Bears, Cubs, Bulls and Blackhawks when not otherwise engaged in home and yard maintenance.  He loved history and was well read in many interests, particularly political and military.

Hal is survived by his children Bill, Larry (Trudy), and Peter all in Barrington. His sister Karen (Jon) Devine and four grandchildren Tessa, April, Jordon and Jason. He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara, his parents, siblings Gale, Helen, Cleo and Charlene.

Visitation will be held Thursday, August 13, 2020 from 11 AM until the time of the funeral service at 12:30 PM at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 149 W. Main St. (Lake-Cook Rd.) Barrington. Burial will follow at White Memorial Cemetery, Barrington.

Memorial donations may be made to the Barrington Fire Department, 400 N. Northwest Highway, Barrington, Illinois 60010.
