Hermina Nielsen, 96, of Barrington, died, March 27, 2014, at home.
She was born on March 27, 1918, to Wendel and Marie Wild who came from Hungary and settled in Grand Haven, Michigan.
The Wild family moved to Chicago in the late 1920’s where she graduated from Steinmetz High School and subsequently from Wright Junior College. She worked as a secretary for Kraft Foods where she met and married a chemist, Ernst Nielsen, in 1945. They raised their family in Lake Villa and later Libertyville before retiring first to Daytona Beach and Ormond Beach FL. There she was an avid orchid grower. The couple returned north… first to Woodstock IL, and as a widow, Mrs. Nielsen lived at Golden Years in Walworth Co, WI and Lake Barrington Woods, Barrington IL. She was a dedicated wife, mother, and later wrote two novels and her autobiography, “Changing Times”.
Hermina is survived by her loving children, Ernest (Carol Andrew) Nielsen, Susan (Donald) Whitney and Gregory (Lauri) Nielsen; grandchildren, Max Nielsen, Bradley Nielsen, Alyssa (Steve) Hermosissima and Matthew Nielsen.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ernst; sisters, Wendy Rider, Genevieve Koopman and Rose Marie Wellens; brothers, John Wilds and Wendel Wild.
Memorial visitation will be held on April 7th from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11a.m., at Salem United Methodist Church, 115 W. Lincoln Ave., Barrington, 60010.
