Surrounded by her loving family, Holly Ann (Kempf) Steiner passed away on June 16, 2024, after a courageous decade-long battle with COPD. To those who knew her, she was affectionately called mom, grandma, Holl Doll, Aunt Holly, and of course, Holly.
Holly was born in Canton, Ohio, to Mary and Henry Kempf. She was the beloved sister of Hank, who recently passed away with his wife Weezie Kempf in 2023, leaving behind their four children, Teresa, Elizabeth, Anna, and Margaret. Holly also shared a special bond with her younger brother, George, who remains with us, along with his wife Sue and their three children, Katelyn, Jimmy, and Mary Ellen. Holly, Hank, and George endured the loss of their parents, Henry Kempf in 1977 and Mary Kempf in 2016.
In 1966, Holly met the love of her life, Victor Steiner, and they married in 1968. Together, they built a beautiful life and raised five wonderful children: Mike Steiner, Jamie (Steiner) Tynan (1962-2007), Josh Steiner, Joe Steiner, and Jessica (Steiner) Cline, who is married to and lovingly called the “favorite” son-in-law by Holly, Boe Cline.
Holly’s already large family grew with the addition of eight adored grandchildren: Christopher Tynan (35), Zachary Steiner (26), Mackenzie Cline (25), Madeline Cline (24), Victor (Jack) Steiner (22), Audrey Steiner (19), Isabella Steiner (17), and Amelia Cline (17). She was a devoted mother, wife, and grandmother, whose greatest joy came from watching her grandchildren’s sports events, hearing their college stories, and engaging in heartfelt conversations about teenage drama and boy problems.
Holly had a profound love for horses, which she beautifully integrated into her life and home. Her house was adorned with memories of horses, reflecting her passion for these majestic animals. She also cherished her time in Steamboat Springs, CO, a place that held a special place in her heart and provided countless cherished memories.
Known for her honesty, sometimes to the point of being too honest, Holly’s candid nature was one of the many reasons she was deeply loved. She excelled as a teacher and was an exceptional wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and best friend. Her impeccable taste and fashionable style were evident in every aspect of her life, from home design and decor to clothing and accessories.
Holly’s memory will forever be cherished by her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends. She leaves behind her dear brother, George Kempf, and an enduring legacy of love, warmth, and selflessness.
A memorial Mass will be held at 10am on Thursday, June 27 at St. Anne Catholic Community, 120 Ela St. (Corner of Franklin and Ela Sts.), Barrington, IL 60010.
Rest in peace, dear Holly. Your memory will live on forever in our hearts.
