Irene A. "Jan" Flanagan (nee Jankowski) passed away at her recent home in Barrington, IL on September 8, 2009. She was a long time resident of Rustic Hills in Colorado Springs, CO. The second of four siblings, Jan was born February 4, 1924 in Salem, MA, to Polish immigrants Angela (nee Wydra) and Alexander Jankowski. She was raised and schooled in Salem, MA and Somersworth, NH. Upon graduating in 1946 from St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing (Nashua), Jan worked as an RN at Frisbee Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NH. Jan married Stephen M. Flanagan of Dover, NH on May 9, 1953. She and Steve settled in Colorado Springs in 1972, where Steve retired his commission as Lt. Colonel, USAF. During her 20 years as a military wife, Jan was devoted to her family and gave strong support to all their endeavors. Jan was active in her church and community, and made many lifelong friends. What little time she took for herself was spent gardening, sewing, painting and cooking. She also shared her husband's love of the outdoors, and enjoyed camping and fishing with him, their children, and grandchildren. Jan is survived by her children Karen (Ralph) Tarquino of Hawthorn Woods, IL and Tim (Jessie) Flanagan of Centennial, CO, as well as 6 grandchildren (Matt and Kate Tarquino, Valerie, Chris, Luke, and Rebecca Flanagan), and a brother, Leonard (Jan) Jankowski of Rollinsford, NH. Services will be at Holy Apostles Catholic Church in Colorado Springs on Monday, September 21 at 2:00pm. Jan will be interred alongside her husband at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Jan's memory to St Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105
