Italo Virgilio Ruffolo, 85, of Elk Grove Village, passed away on Sunday, May 12, 2024. Born in Cosenza, Calabria, Italy, on a farm that has since become part of the University of Calabria campus, Italo came to America at the age of 19. He entered through Ellis Island and soon after made Chicago his home. It was here that he met his wife, Dolores Lamberti. The couple married on May 20, 1967. Dolores passed away on July 3, 2010, just six months following their retirement to Huntley.
A dedicated barber for 48 years, Italo cherished the conversational and social aspects of his profession, forming lasting relationships with his clientele.
He is survived by his children, Peter (Gina) Ruffolo and Gina (Frank) Smith; his grandchildren, Victoria, Gianna, Nicholas, Sarah, Bryan, and Anthony; and his first great-grandchild, Carmine Troia, who is expected in October. He is also survived by his brother, Luigi Ruffolo, as well as numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Preceding him in death, along with his wife Dolores, were his parents, Salvatore and Marietta (Cardamone) Ruffolo, and his siblings, Silvester Ruffolo and Louisa Kotleba.
A graveside service is scheduled for Thursday, May 16, at 11:00 AM at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Huntley right next to Dolores whom he has so greatly missed the past 14 years.
