Jacob “Jack” Leist was born March 2, 1942 in Chicago and passed away peacefully Thursday, June 18, 2015 in McHenry.
Jack is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Judith Sedlack; children, David (Tina) Leist, Darrin (Allison) Leist, Deborah (John) Batterham, and Jeffrey (Sarah) Sedlack; grandchildren, Stephanie and RaeAnn Leist, John Batterham, Allicia Murray, Matthew and Zac Batterham, and Mazie Sedlack; great-granddaughter Eden; and brothers Brian (Patti) Leist, and Jeffrey Leist. He was preceded in death by his son Daniel Leist.
Jack was an avid collector of hunting and fishing collectibles and of all antiques. He enjoyed spending time with his family, the outdoors, winters in Florida, playing cards, and watching Jeopardy (he had more correct answers than most contestants!). He was a man of many hobbies including going to flea markets, gardening, trains, planes and automobiles. One of his proudest moments was sitting in the co-pilot’s seat of a B-17 and taking the controls during a brief flight at an air show. He was a member of many organization including the FAA Aviation Foundation, 20th Century Rail Fan Club, and EAA.
Visitation will be held from 3pm – 9pm Wednesday, June 24 at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave (Route 176), Crystal Lake.
Funeral services will be at 10am Thursday, June 25 at the funeral home. Rev. Dr. Arn Schaper will officiate. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Jack’s name may be made to the American Lung Association, www.lung.org.
