Jack M. Salstrand
Visitation will be 3-9pm Tuesday Feb. 28 at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 149 W. Main St, Barrington IL. Funeral Mass will be 10am Wed. Feb. 29 at St. Anne Catholic Church, 120 N. Ela St, Barrington, where Jack will lie in state from 9am until the time of the mass. Interment is private.
Jack was drafted into the US Air Force when he was 18, serving during WWII in England and Puerto Rico as a flight engineer. He worked for American Bridge (US Steel Co) from 1949 until he retired in 1987.
Jack was an avid Chicago sports fan, especially the Cubs, Bears, and Bulls. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, camping with his family, and traveling to many countries with his wife and family. He cherished the time he spent with his children and grandchildren.
Jack is survived by his wife of 63 years, Barbara (nee Haas), whom he married April 18,1948, his children Eric (Mary Nell Murphy), Salstrand, Christine Salstrand-Smith, Karen Salstrand, Mark (Lorraine) Salstrand, and Sarah (John) Poletto, grandchildren Eric, Sam, Rachel, Jacob, Elizabeth, Mark, Elena, Jack, Joseph, and Anna, six great-grandchildren, and brothers in law Tom and Ralph.
He was preceded in death by his parents Cyrus and Hildur Salstrand, sister Dorothy, brother Arthur, brothers in law Lawrence and Bernard, and sisters in law Theresa and Mary Ann.
