James Epperson

Barrington, Illinois,

James P. “Jim” Epperson,83, of Barrington, IL passed away on June 11, 2012. 

He was born at home in Hume, IL on September 27, 1929 to Homer Lee Epperson and Sylvia Elliott Epperson.  Mr. Epperson graduated from Newman High School, received a Bachelor of Science in Education from Western Illinois University and continued on to receive his Master’s degree from Western Illinois University.

Mr. Epperson worked as a teacher and head coach in Dupo, IL; Grosse Pointe, MI; and Barrington High School of Barrington, IL.  He also served as Chairman of the Technology Department at Barrington High School for more than twelve years.  During Mr. Epperson’s coaching career, he compiled an impressive record of 146 wins against 78 losses.  He went on to work as a real estate appraiser following retirement as an educator.

He was a member of Phi Sigma Epsilon fraternity, of the Newman Christian Church and Newman Masonic Lodge #369.  He served in the Army at Fort Knox, KY. 

Mr. Epperson enjoyed watching all professional sports and was a dedicated fan of the Chicago Bulls.  He was devoted to his faithful friend, Hobo, who stayed by his side to the end.

He is survived by spouse, Roberta L. Graham Epperson of Barrington, IL; son, Paul L. (Christine) Epperson of St. Charles, MO; and brother, Kenneth B. (Lorraine) Epperson of Macomb, IL. 

 Donations may be made in Jim’s memory to the Humane Society.

 A private service and burial were held in Newman, IL on Friday, June 15th.

 A memorial is planned in Barrington, IL at a later date.
