James E. Gordon,82, a long-time resident of Crystal Lake, passed away on Wednesday, July 27, 2011 in Crystal Lake.
Born on February 11, 1929 in Meigs, Georgia, he was the son of the late James R. and Margaret (Taylor) Gordon.
On November 3, 1951 in Maine, he was united in marriage to Cecile J. Charron.
He proudly served his country in the US Air Force, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. After his honorable discharge from military service, he attended the University of Maine and received his Bachelors Degree in Engineering. For more than 29 years, he was employed at A.O. Smith-Harvestore and retired in 1991.
He was a member of the Crystal Lake American Legion Post 171. His hobbies included golf, hunting, and fishing.
Those left behind to cherish his memory include Cecile, his wife of almost 60 years; son James M. Gordon of Denver; daughters, Tina Marie (Greg) Nelson and Deborah (Brian) Karr, both of Crystal Lake; grandchildren, Jason, Cody, and Alex Nelson and Madison, Trevor and Zachary Karr; brothers, Donnie Gordon and Lee (Glenda) Gordon; sister Patricia Morgan; sisters-in-law Evelyn Gordon and Faye Gordon; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents and brothers, Larry Gordon and Dorsey Gordon.
The memorial visitation will begin at 2pm with a service at 4pm, Saturday, July 30 at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave. (IL Rt. 176), Crystal Lake. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Mr. Gordon’s name may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, National Processing Center, PO Box 758516, Topeka KS 66675-8516.
