James Francis Kennedy, 83, of Barrington, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2017, surrounded by his loving family He was born September 17, 1933 in Oak Park to Andrew and Dolores (Keefe) Kennedy.
Jim is a graduate of Fenwick High School in 1952, and the University of Dayton with a Bachelor’s Degree in Commercial Arts in 1956, were he was in the ROTC program. He was commissioned 2nd lieutenant and served for 6 years in the Medical Service Corp attached to the 4th Infantry Division. After his Army service he joined the family printing company, A. J. Kennedy and Company (Color Direct) as a layout designer and later as VP of Marketing. He also taught water color painting at Kaleidoscope and St. Anne Church, where he was an active member of the parish.
Jim is survived by his children: Maureen (Bob) Grab, Kevin (Pam) Kennedy, Michael Ann Kennedy, Sean (the late Diana) Kennedy, Margaret (John) O’Malley, Kieran (Jean) Kennedy, Katie (John) Benkendorf, Molly (Jeff) Karp, Colin (the late Maribeth) Kennedy and Tara (Jeff) Rabenhorst; step children, Tim (Dianne) Catalano, Kay (Jerry) Perez, Wes (Nancy) Catalano, Jeff (Jean) Catalano, John Catalano, Chris (Calvin ) Farley, Julie (Jack) Baily, Sarah (Seth) Robinson, and Jennifer (Mike) Kainz; nephews, Richard (Lisa) Wesley, and Wynn Wesley; many loving grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; and sister, Patricia (the late Donald) Flock.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, George Ann (nee Schwartz), his second wife, Susan (nee Wesley), daughter-in-laws, Diana and Maribeth; a sister and three brothers.
Visitation will be Friday, February 10, from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. with a wake service at 7 p.m., at St. Anne Catholic Church, 120 Ela St. (corner of Franklin and Ela St), Barrington, IL 60010. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 11 at St. Anne where the family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until the time of mass. Interment will be private at All Saints Cemetery, Des Plaines.
