James J. Kratochvil Jr., 70, of Crystal Lake, IL passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on August 15, 2021. He was born on June 16, 1951 in Oak Park, IL to the late James Sr. and Mary Ellen Kratochvil.
Jim was an electrician and member of Local 134, A Brotherhood of Electricians for over 40 years. During his career, some of the projects he managed were Arlington Park Race Track, International Terminal at O’Hare, Dupont Data Center, Our Lady of Hope Church – for which he received a design lighting award from the Local. He was involved with both Indian Guides and Princesses through the Crystal Lake YMCA, where he was voted as Nation Chief. Jim was a coach and mentor to his family and friends, whether it was teaching the “Golden Rule” to his children and grandchildren or coaching softball and soccer teams.
Jim was proud to have reached the level of Eagle Scout as well as being a 4th degree Knight of Columbus, in the Father McCormack #3880 chapter. He was also a lifetime member of YAFG – Young Apostles Fishing Guild, and President of the Miller Lite Chapter of the Green Bay Packers Fan Club.
Jim was the loving husband of 49 years to Jill S. (nee Korous); devoted dad to Kristin (Dave) Smith, Kelly (John) Malina, and Jim (Jen) Kratochvil; proud and cherished Papa to Abby and Johnny Malina, Jordyn Kratochvil and Christian Smith; dear brother of Barbara, Mary Ann and Joe (Mary Ann) Kratochvil; and treasured companion to his four-legged friend, Millie. Many loving friends and extended family also survive.
Memorial visitation will be Sunday, August 22, 2021 from 2 PM until 7 PM at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave. (Rte. 176), Crystal Lake, IL 60014. Visitation will resume on Monday, from 9 AM until prayers at 9:30 AM. A procession will follow to St. Thomas the Apostle, 451 W. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake, for a 10 AM Funeral Mass. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in the name of Jim Kratochvil, to the Crystal Lake Food Pantry, 42 East Street, Crystal Lake, IL 60014, www.clfoodpantry.org or to a charity of your choice.
