James “Jim” L. Michael, 91, of Barrington, IL passed away peacefully on September 30, 2018. He was born on February 25, 1927 in Quincy, IL to Virgil and Genevieve (nee Loomis) Michael.
He was raised in Galesburg, IL before heading off to college where he met Juanita. Jim went to Western Illinois where he played on a nationally ranked golf team. Upon completion of his college career he married Juanita. Jim was a PGA Pro for 58 years, the head golf professional at Biltmore Country Club in Barrington for 28 years, and spent his later years giving golf lessons at Thunderbird Golf Course and Stonehenge Golf Course. He and Juanita raised 3 children while living in Albuquerque and Mundelein before settling in Barrington. He loved playing gin rummy at Biltmore with many fellow members. Jim, along with a few other retirees, would meet at Clarke's Bakery on Tuesdays and Saturdays to solve the problems of the world.
Jim will be deeply missed by his loving children, Nancy (Bill) Hartwig, Mary (Tim) Howard, Jim (Nancy) Michael; grandchildren, Joy (Jason) Latek, Jennifer (Chris) Orth, Bill (Crissy) Hartwig, Tim, Joey (Kim), and Chris (Olivia) Howard, Kelly and Danny (Amanda) Michael; great-grandchildren, Kate, Carson, Harrison, D.J. and Hunter.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Juanita; siblings, and by his parents.
Memorial visitation will be Monday, October 8, 2018, from 3 PM until 6 PM at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 941 S. Old Rand Rd., Lake Zurich, IL 60047. Interment will be private.
