James “Jim” Raupp passed away peacefully April 15, 2023. He was born February 13, 1937 in Palatine to Jacob and Olga Raupp. Jim is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marie Raupp (Grandt) whom he married February 23, 1963 at St. Joseph the Worker Church in Wheeling. He is also survived by his children, Michelle (John) Raupp Sterbenz of Lake Zurich, Gerry (Kim) Raupp of Wauconda; and grandchildren, Jake (Sarah) Sterbenz, Allison Sterbenz, and James Raupp. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jake and Olga (Weidner) Raupp; and siblings, Harold (Beatrice) Raupp, Joseph (Theresa) Raupp, Paul (Elaine) Raupp, and Lillian (Ed Frost) Raupp.
Jim grew up on the family farm in Long Grove, IL. As a devout catholic he was proud of his family’s traditions and legacy as founding members of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Buffalo Grove, IL. Jim also proudly served as a volunteer firefighter in Buffalo Grove. He successfully founded and ran his own trucking company for over 25 years with his wife Marie. He spent his time in retirement tinkering in the shop restoring and collecting antique tractors. He was a member of the Lake County Farm Heritage Association and enjoyed attending their events and participating in local parades and fairs with the club. As a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, he will be lovingly remembered by family and many lifelong friends.
Visitation will be 4pm-8pm Thursday April 20 at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 941 S. Old Rand Road, Lake Zurich. Prayers will begin at 10am, Friday April 21 at the funeral home followed by procession to St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church for mass at 10:30am. Burial will follow mass at St. Mary’s Cemetery of Buffalo Grove.
