Jane Baker

Barrington, Illinois,Jane Lasseter Baker, formerly of Evanston and Wilmette, Illinois died Tuesday, September 9, 2010 at her residence at Lake Barrington Woods in Barrington, Illinois. Jane was 86 years old. Jane was born on December 20 1923 in Asheville, North Carolina to Jack and Etoile Lasseter. After her mother?s death at an early age, her father re-married and Iola Lasseter became her mother. Jane was married to the late John Burton Thomas and they raised their 4 children in Wilmette, Illinois. She was active in the community and schools. She worked as a bookkeeper for many years for Dr. Josephine Earlywine, a well respected pediatrician in Wilmette. She then joined the team working for Evanston Cardiologist, Dr. George Sutton. Later Jane worked at Northwestern University in the Student Health Services Department. Jane was also married to the late Benton Baker. They enjoyed their retirement years together in Evanston with friends and family. She is survived by her four children. Scott Thomas of Santa Cruz, California and his former wife Mary Jane Thomas of Baltimore, Maryland; Patricia Sommer and her partner Thomas Mello of Westport, Ma.; David Thomas and his wife Angela of Barrington, Illinois as well as his former wife Marilena Thomas of Satellite Beach, Florida; Robert Thomas and his wife Ann of Cheshire, Connecticut. She is also survived by her eight grandchildren. Matthew Sommer of Nashville, Tennessee; Alice Lehrer (Sommer) and her husband Matthew of San Francisco, Melissa Thomas of Barrington, Illinois; Megan Thomas of Clearwater, Florida; Jack Thomas of Clearwater, Florida; Emily, Bob, and Liam Thomas all of Cheshire, Connecticut. A memorial service will be held at St. Michael's Episcopal Church, 647 Dundee Ave.Barrington, IL 60010 on Saturday, September 18, 2010 at 12:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jane?s name to The American Heart Association would be appreciated.
