Jane “Cinder” Dowling (nee Somerville), 78, of Barrington Hills, passed away peacefully on March 2, 2016 at Good Shepherd Hospital, Barrington. She was born to Lawrence and Jane (nee Holbert) Somerville on September 11, 1937 in Evanston, IL.
Cinder was an interior decorator for the past 30 years. She was a 1955 graduate of Barrington High School and attended Northwestern University and the Chicago Art Institute. She served as the President of the Garden Club of Barrington and National Horticulture Chairman for the Garden Club of America. She was also a member of the Barrington Play Reading Group. Cinder enjoyed playing golf and bridge, doing needle point, traveling and spending time with her family.
Survivors include her husband, Edward G. Dowling Jr.; children, Laura (Jerry) Pagel and Jeffrey Slack; and grandchildren, Zack and Andy Pagel.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Edward “Ned” Somerville.
Visitation will be Sunday, March 6 , from 4pm until 8 p.m. at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 149 W. Main Street (Lake-Cook Rd) Barrington, IL 60010. Service and Interment will be private.
