Jane McAlpine

November 5, 1931 — April 5, 2015

Jane Lieber Martyn McAlpine 83 of Village of Lakewood, Illinois Passed away on April 5, 2015.

She was born on November 5, 1931 to the late Muriel Frances McCullough Martyn and Lieber Whittic Martyn in Buffalo, New York. Beloved sister to Sally Ann Martyn Plunkett Keeler 87 of Longmont, Colorado.

Jane worked for Jiffy Products for over 20 years as the National Sales Manager. Becoming the first woman National Sales Manager in the Lawn and Garden industry, she overcame many obstacles in a mainly male dominated industry. Jane was well known, loved and respected by many industry professionals and customers alike.

She proved that a woman could do as good, if not better than any man and proved it by exceeding her sales goals each year for 20 years and still raise a family by herself.

Upon Retiring at age 66, she spent her free time volunteering at Cantigny Gardens in Winfield Illinois. Jane enjoyed gardening, oil painting and most of all, spending time with her many grandchildren.

Survivors include her children, Martyn McAlpine (Debbie) of Erie Pennsylvania, Elizabeth “Betsy” Loeffler (Ed) of Crystal Lake, Illinois, Christopher Scott McAlpine (Ellen) of Cary, Illinois, Jonathan R. McAlpine of Ottawa, Wisconsin; niece, Nancy Plunklett (John Mace) of Hinesburg, Vermont; nephew, Thomas Plunkett (Lisa) of Longmont, Colorado.
Jane absolutely loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and would brag to everyone about them to include her grandchildren, Bradley, Todd and Jennifer, the late Matthew, Joshua, Paul (Jennifer) Stefanie (Eric) Miquelon, Amy (Mike) Mayo, Darlene (Mike) Altieri, Kyle, Colin, and Sean, Kellie, Shannon and Joseph; great-grandchildren, Maddie, Drew, Miles, Braxton, Eleanor, Lacey and Timothy; grand-niece, Kristen (William) Dingwall; grand-nephews; Thomas Selkirk Plunkett, and Joseph Benjamin Plunkett.
Jane loved her family and was happiest when we were all together for Holidays, special events and Weddings.

She was well spoken and was never afraid to say what was on her mind and you always knew where you stood with her. She was our “Tough old Broad”, a name that brought a smile to her face every time she heard it.

Visitation will be held Thursday, April 9 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 410 N First St, Cary, Illinois 60013. Burial will follow at Crystal Lake Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org or to JourneyCare Foundation, 405 Lake Zurich Rd, Barrington, IL 60010

“We all will miss you mom, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Aunt, Great Aunt, Sister and Friend!”
