Janet was born in London, England on May 24, 1942, to John and Kathleen Ramsey. They also had another child, John, Janet’s younger brother. After WWII ended the family moved to America. Her father was an American soldier, and Janet was very proud of her American and British ancestry.
She married Melvin Downum in Illinois and together they raised five children, Shirley, James, Mark, Sandra and Sharon.
Janet enjoyed playing piano as a child. While raising her own children, she refreshed her skills and continued to play piano as a hobby. She loved animals, especially cats, and had one or more most of her adult life. She also loved to read books; she had a curious nature that loved to learn about the world around her. She was intelligent, witty, and had a fun sense of humor.
A second marriage later in life, to George Miller of Arkansas, she spent many happy years living in Arkansas.
Her final residence was back in McHenry, Illinois at a care facility. During the music activities there she discovered she had a beautiful singing voice as well. She was back home to God on February 17, 2025, to rest in eternal peace.
We love and miss you so very much, Mom!
She is survived by 4 of 5 of her children, a son and daughter in law, six grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, as well as a niece and nephew from her brother.
