Janice H. Johnston

February 16, 1930 — August 8, 2017

Janice Helen Johnston, of Crystal Lake, born February 16, 1930 in St. Joseph, Missouri to the late Paul and Gladys (nee Barrow) Brown, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at the age of 87.

Janice began work as a long-distance telephone operator in St. Joseph, Missouri and Wichita, Kansas. She later became an accomplished lead sales woman for Sears appliances in Crystal Lake. Finally, she retired as Head of Circulation for the Crystal Lake Public Library. She was fondly known around town as the ‘Library Lady.’ She loved her mystery novels.

At a young age she had the privilege of learning style from her father who was a local tailor in St. Joseph, which carried through her life and created her love for clothing and fashion. She was also grateful to have the opportunity to see the world, traveling extensively with her husband. Lastly, there was not a brand of chocolate that Janice had not enjoyed.

In addition to her loving husband, Ronald M. Johnston, she is survived by her sons, Kenneth M. (Jasmine) Johnston and Steven P. (fiancée Boots Palad)  Johnston; daughters-in-law, Sandra Johnston and Gail (Bobby) Johnston-Riggs; her grandchildren, Scott Johnston, Jennifer (Matt) Orlick, Nicole Johnston, Michael Johnston, and Christopher Johnston; her great-grandchildren, Vince, Autumn and Wyatt Orlick; and her feline companion, Maynard.

She was preceded in death by her many feline companions over the years.

Friends are welcome to visit with Janice’s family on Saturday, August 12, beginning at 10:00 a.m. with a funeral service at 12 Noon at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 419 E Terra Cotta Ave (Rte. 176) Crystal Lake. Burial will follow at Crystal Lake Memorial Park.
