Jean (Sprouse) Dorn

Jean Dorn, 75, of Crystal Lake, started her new eternal life with her Lord and Savior on December 16, 2018. She was born on November 28, 1943 in Melrose Park, IL to John and Marguerite  (Millikan) Sprouse.

Jean spotted Robert, her loving husband of 52 years, while a student at Proviso West High School.  Standing behind the backstop at the local baseball field she watched the catcher and knew that he was the man she would marry. They married in 1966 and together raised three sons David (Holly), Eric (Jennifer), and Chad (Kate) Dorn.  Jean was a devoted mother and was excited to be “Oma” to her five grandchildren, Emma, Aiden, Brennen, Cooper, and Hayes.

Hugs were the name of the game for Jean.  From family and friends to her infusion nurses, you always felt her love via a hug.  As a young child, she found her strength in her faith in Jesus and enacted his message by always putting others before herself.  St. Paul described her humility and strength in Phil 2:3 “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.”

Jean demonstrated her kind spirit as a hospice volunteer and retired from District 155 School District.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Edward and Fred. Her siblings, Patricia, Bruce and Chris, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members will cherish her memory.

We would like to thank our family, friends, doctors, nurses, and hospice staff who walked hand in hand with Jean on her journey.  We would not have been able to cope without the help and support of each of you that shared hugs, laughter, memories, and decorated Christmas trees.

We welcome all to join us in celebrating her life on earth and in heaven by sharing fun stories, tears, and memories.  Visitation will be Wednesday, December 19, from 4 PM until 8 PM at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave. (Rte.176), Crystal Lake. Funeral service will be Thursday, December 20, at 11 AM at Immanuel Lutheran, 300 S Pathway Ct., Crystal Lake, IL 60014.  Family will receive friends from 10 AM until the time of service. Interment will follow at Windridge Memorial Park, Cary.
