Jeannette (Whittaker) Hidding, 97, passed away peacefully, at her residence, The Garlands of Barrington, on April 8, 2018. She was born to George and Anna (O’Brien) Whittaker, on November 25, 1920, in Newport News, Virginia. They moved to Chicago, where she was raised, with her sister, Betty. In her younger years, Jeannette worked at Morton Salt, as a switchboard operator. On October 26, 1941, she married Walter Hidding. Over the years, Jeannette and Walter lived in Chicago, Skokie, Arlington Heights and Barrington Hills, and enjoyed homes in Acapulco, Agness, Oregon and Door County, WI. While raising her children and managing the family’s real estate, Jeannette worked with Blackhawk Molding Co in Addison, the business Walter and Jeannette founded. She was also a member of the board of trustees for the Chicago Junior School, was very involved in her church and was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary, which supported the Chicago Swedish Glee Club. Jeannette enjoyed traveling on worldwide excursions, including searching for antique furniture in England, camping in Africa, while on safari and enjoyed travel with family. Survivors include her children, Susan (Jay) Maher of Highlands Ranch, CO, Douglas Hidding of Barrington Hills, Robert (Rosangel) Hidding, of West Dundee, Illinois; five grandchildren and their spouses, Christopher (Rebecca) Maher, Ryan (Victoria) Maher, Patrick (Robin) Maher, Kyle Hidding, Robert Hidding; eight great-grandchildren. Jeannette was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister and daughter-in-law, Pamela Hidding. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Church of Christ Scientist, 421 E. Main St. Barrington, IL would be appreciated. Services will be private.
