Jerome J. Zacharias, Sr.

Jerome J. Zacharias passed away peacefully March 21, 2022, a week following his 101st birthday.  Jerry was born March 17,1921 in Chicago to Joseph and Anna Zacharias.

Jerry is survived by his granddaughter, Joni (Dan) Gilles; great grandchildren, Zach and Grace Gilles; sister-in-law, Marcia Evans of MD; nephews, Mark Moreau of MN, Steve (Theresa) Moreau of MN, and Greg (Anna) Evans of CA; and nieces, Julia (John) Sessoms of LA, Laura (Jeff) Rhodes of MD, Mary Sarah (Bob) Plitzkow of MN, and Ann Deloach of MN.  He was preceded in death by his wife Audrey Laughlin; second wife, Joan Glassco; son, Jerome Zacharias, Jr; and his parents.

Jerry attended Loyola University and proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1942-1945 as a 1st Class Aviation Electronic Technician.  Following his military service, he owned and operated Jerome J. Zacharias, Inc., a wholesale clothing business.  After retirement Jerry taught English at McHenry Community College.  Jerry traveled extensively both abroad and within the U.S. with his wife, Joannie and friends.  They also enjoyed the time they spent in Hawaii, Florida, and various other southern states.

Visitation will be 10am until the memorial service at 11am, Friday, March 25 at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave (Route 176), Crystal Lake. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to JourneyCare Foundation, 405 Lake Zurich Road, Barrington, IL 60010; or to a charity of your choice.
