Joan Franz
January 18, 1936 — October 1, 2016
Born January 18, 1936 in Gibson City, IL, the daughter of Fred C. and Edith (nee Karr) Fry, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 1, 2016.
Joan was a 1957 graduate of Northwestern Nursing School. As a Registered Nurse she was hired as a flight attendant for United in January 1959. She was credited for helping to save the lives of four passengers. After raising two children, she returned to working as a flight attendant and retired in 2001. Joan Moved to Green Valley Arizona in 2005 where she loved to play golf and tennis. At 75 she made a regional traveling tennis team. Joan will be fondly remembered as a woman who loved to laugh and always made others laugh.
Joan is survived by her sons, Donald F. and Thomas D. Franz; her brothers, Maurice (Liz) Fry and Lamoine (Monica) Fry; step-son, David R. Franz; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James C. Franz.
The visitation will be held Friday, October 7 from 4-8 p.m. at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 419 E Terra Cotta Ave (Rte. 176) Crystal Lake. The memorial service will be held the following day, Saturday, October 8 at 11 a.m. with visiting beginning at 10 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, 236 W Crystal Lake Ave, Crystal Lake.
