Barrington, Illinois,Mass of Christian Burial for Joan E. Sersen (nee Vokac), 80 of Barrington, will be held 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 17, 2010, at St Francis De Sales, , where she will lie in state from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass. Father David Ryan will officiate. Interment will be private in Evergreen Cemetery, Barrington. Visitation will be from 4-9 p.m. on Wednesday, June 16, 2010 at the Davenport Family Funeral Home, 149 W. Main St. (Lake-Cook Rd.), Barrington. Born June 24, 1929 in Chicago, she passed away Sunday, June 13, 2010, surrounded by her loving family at Paradise Park in Lake Zurich. Joan was employed in Chef?s Kitchen at Jewel in Barrington for over 30 years, and shared lifelong friendship with the Jewel Gems. She also enjoyed traveling and was a member of the Holiday Rambler RV Club. She had a passion for animals and enjoyed the great outdoors, camping, fishing and spending time with her grandchildren. Survivors include her children, Donna (Marty) Schranz, Jeanne (Patrick) DaCosta, Judith (Duane) Hartwig, and Debra (Michael) Kosty; grandchildren, Jessica (Mike) Rostan, Elizabeth and Stephanie Hartwig, Patrice and Janelle DaCosta, Brian Schranz, Joseph and Micaela Kosty; sister, Alice (Frank) Chobak; sisters-in-law, Vivian and Lou Vokac , and many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Sersen; parents, Joseph and Jean (nee Kolar) Vokac; brothers, Joseph and George Vokac.
