Joan M. Stanke

Join us in celebrating the beautiful life of Joan Marie Stanke, as sister, wife, mother, and friend. Joan passed away peacefully on February 7, 2025, at age 88, in Hoffman Estates, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Chicago to Joseph and Rosemarie Steggers.

Joan was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church in Barrington for the last 15 years. She enjoyed traveling, visited all fifty states, explored five continents, and shared her love of adventure by taking her family on trips over Christmas. Anyone who knows Joan has heard stories about her family, because family was the center of her life. Joan was engaged in her community which began with volunteering in all her children’s activities in South Holland. She so enjoyed time with siblings during their regular gatherings, and with friends in South Barrington playing cards, going for walks, participating in book clubs, tai chai, and clubhouse activities.

Joan was preceded in death by Walter Fred, her husband of 53 years, her parents, and her brother, Richard Steggers.

She is survived by her children, Mark (Theresa) Stanke, Marianne (James Trofimuk) Stanke, Suzanne (Conrad) Figueroa, and John (Sara) Stanke; grandchildren, Kathryn (Stephen) Kull, Kyle Stanke, Kurt (fiancé Madelyn Stubits) Stanke, Ryan Stanke, and Evan Stanke; great granddaughter, Ensley; sisters, Lucille (late Roy) Ott, Marion (late Kenneth) Cain, and Barbara (late John) Bolf; brother, Donald (Mary) Steggers; sister-in-law, Joyce; and sixteen nieces and nephews.
