Joan Stanley

Joan B. Stanley, 69, of Houghton Lake, Michigan, formerly of Portage, Indiana, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2017. Joan was born September 13, 1947 in Tarentum, Pennsylvania, to Edward and Laura (Taylor) Smay.
Joan’s achievements included being a certified Home Health Care Nurse and homemaker to her four daughters. Joan had many talents; she was an avid seamstress making quilts and pillow cases for her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed reading at their lake house in Michigan, as well as enjoying time with her family on their boat.
Joan will be deeply missed by her loving husband of 50 years, Edward Stanley, her four daughters, Jill (Tim) Smith, Laurie (John) Starr, Wendy (Mike) Matarese-Altizer, and Aimee (Bill) Hawkins. She was extremely fond of her six grandchildren, Jessica (Aydelotte), Jordan (Starr), Jack (Starr), Haley (Altizer), Vivian (Hawkins, and Liam (Hawkins). Joan is survived by her brother Terry (Diane) Smay, of Tarentum, Pennsylvania.
Services and interment will be privately held.
