Jo Ann R. Bailey

JoAnn (Rose) Bailey, a long-time resident of Barrington, IL, died Wednesday, August 1st at Friendship Village in Schaumburg, IL.

She was born in 1922 in Decatur, IL, to Dr. Milton and Dorothy (Shade) Rose.  JoAnn demonstrated true artistic talent and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, in 1944.  She married David Bailey on October 12, 1946 and they moved to Barrington in 1953, where they raised four daughters.  They were very active in the establishment and growth of St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, and were life-long faithful parishioners.

As her children grew, JoAnn found employment in the Social Studies Department at Barrington High School, and was an dedicated employee there for almost twenty-five years.  She retired from a job that she loved when family needs became paramount, but maintained many close friendships with members of the Department.

JoAnn loved her family, her church, the arts, music and books, and welcoming new parishioners to St. Michaels.  Her steadfast faith was apparent in every aspect of her life and was an example to all those around her.  She also took great pride in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, all of whom brought her great joy in her later years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, her sister Mary Louise Lutz and her brother William Rose.  She is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth Ewart, Cynthia Neff, Mary (Dan) Craig, and Dorothy (Bruce) Rexroat, six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 12 at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, 647 Dundee Ave., Barrington.  Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 13 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Michael’s.  Memorial gifts may be made to St. Michael’s Episcopal Church.
