JoAnn Luecke Rogers, 60, of Barrington, IL, tragically and suddenly passed away in a traffic accident on March 11th, 2025.
JoAnn was born on July 12th, 1964, at Northwest Community Hospital to Joseph and Joyce Luecke and raised in Palatine and Long Grove with her beloved four sisters. She graduated from Palatine High School in 1982 before receiving both her undergraduate and master’s degrees from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor in 1987.
While in Ann Arbor, JoAnn met her future husband, Terence Rogers. The two married on May 18th, 1991 and moved to Barrington where she lived the rest of her life. She left her accounting career to raise their four boys. She loved the Barrington community and the many friends she has there.
JoAnn enjoyed entertaining and cooking for friends and family, usually with a glass of chardonnay nearby. After the birth of her second son, she discovered an innate ability for running and it became a life-long passion that included many marathons and other races. One of her favorite places to be was in the Colorado mountains, especially in the fall.
In 2020 she was diagnosed with cancer of the right mandible and endured numerous major surgeries and radiation treatments. January 2025 marked five years since her cancer diagnosis and she was officially declared a survivor. She was humbled by and deeply moved by the support from friends and family during that long struggle.
JoAnn was a loving and devoted mother to her four sons and is proud of the men they have become and was thrilled to welcome her daughter in laws and daughter in law to be to the family. She had a special bond with her four big sisters that included starting every day with a call with Barb. Despite being admittedly shy, her kindness, positivity and beautiful smile helped her make friends everywhere she went. Her pets (always including a golden retriever) were a key part of her life and she always had a dog nearby.
JoAnn is preceded in death by her father, Joe Luecke, and survived by husband Terence; her sons Andrew (Madeline Wazowicz), Joseph (Andrea Zevallos), Jack, and Ryan (Julia Mangan); her mother Joyce Luecke; and her sisters Susan, Sharon, Carol (Robert Smearman), and Barbara (Fred Biasello). She is survived by her adored granddaughter Sloane Elizabeth who was born on Christmas Eve 2024, the best Christmas gift ever. She is also survived by her in-laws John Rogers and Sue Swider, Maureen and Lee Kelly, Timothy and Jakki Rogers, and Mary Jo and John Mackniskas, and many nephews and nieces whom she loved very much.
A memorial visitation will be held on Wednesday March 19th from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Davenport Funeral Home in Barrington (149 W Main St). Mass celebrating JoAnn’s life will be held on Thursday March 20th at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Anne Catholic Community (120 Ela St). A second visitation will be offered prior to Mass on Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
Donations in JoAnn’s memory can be made to MD Anderson to the Greater Chicago Food Depository.
