Born September 2, 1932 in Chicago to Homer and Dorothy Barnes (Nee Johnsen), Joanne passed away June 22, 2014 at the age of 81.
Joanne received her Master’s degree in Education, including 36 hours toward her Doctorate. She was employed with Crystal Lake School District 47 for 35 years as well as West Elementary School where she taught kindergarten. Joanne loved riding horses and working as a professional dog handler (PHA). She volunteered her time as an active member in the St. Mary’s Altar Guild, being a member of the Retired Teachers Association, working for the local food pantry and Pads, and also gave her time helping non-driving senior citizens.
Joanne is survived by her loving husband, whom she married in February 1954, in Barrington, John H. Oliver; children, Katherine L. Oliver of Downers Grove, IL, James M. Oliver of Ironwood, MI, and John M. Oliver of Harvard, IL; grandchildren, Nicole Swanson of Harvard, IL, Nathan Oliver of Wonderlake, IL, Brittany Oliver of Lilly Moor, IL, and Austin Oliver of Arizona; great-grandson, Axel Swanson of Harvard, IL; and brother, Cdr. William M. Barnes of Fort Meyers, FL.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
