Joanne C. Steinmetz (nee Closset), 83, of Crystal Lake, formerly of Mt. Prospect, passed away unexpectedly in her home on February 4, 2015. She was born in Chicago on December 5, 1931 to William and Dorothy (nee Stiller) Closset.
Joanne was an alumnus of Taft High School. On September 1, 1951 she married the love of her life, William J. Steinmetz. They made their home in Mt. Prospect where they raised their five children.
Joanne was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will be dearly missed. She was affectionately known as “Nana” by her grandchildren. She was an avid Bridge player and played in several clubs throughout the area. Joanne had many friends and was always there to help anyone in need. She loved her animals, especially her most recent dog, Maggie. Her biggest attributes to her family and friends was her energy, feistiness, ability to make people laugh, and story-telling. Joanne was an excellent cook and always had a beautiful home with an exceptional gift to detail.
Loving mother to Kim Steinmetz, Kathy (William) Moloney, Victoria Gunvalson, Lisa (Terry) Bussenger, and William Steinmetz; proud Nana to Michael Wolfsmith, Briana (Ryan) Culberson, Kyle Bussenger, Nicole Bussenger, and Brock Bussenger; cherished Great-Nana Jo to Troy and Owen; and beloved sister to William Closset.
Joanne’s husband of 46 years, William, preceded her in death in 1997 of Alzheimer’s disease who she has missed dearly. Also preceded in death was her sister-in-law, Judith Closset.
Visitation will be Sunday, February 8th, from 3pm to 8pm at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 419 East Terra Cotta Ave. (Rte. 176), Crystal Lake. Funeral Service will take place Monday, February 9th, at 11am at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 200 South Wille St., Mt. Prospect. Interment will follow at Ridgewood Memorial Park, 9900 N. Milwaukee Ave., Des Plaines.
