John Robert Bender III

John Robert Bender III, of Crystal Lake, passed away Friday, January 25, 2019 at the age of 76 in Barrington.

He was born October 20, 1942, the son of the late John and Nora (nee Garritty) Bender

John was a proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He served in France where he would meet the love of his life, Diane Huntington. Diane served as a teacher with the independent schools in Chambley, France. They were married August 15, 1964 in Connecticut.

John will be dearly missed by his beloved wife of 55 years, Diane; his loving children, John R. (Michele) Bender IV and Robin (Erik) O’Reilly; his cherished grandchildren, Alyssa, Erik and Emily Bender; his brother, Ric Bender; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation for John will be held Wednesday, January 30, from 3:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 7:00 p.m. at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 419 E Terra Cotta Ave (Rt. 176) Crystal Lake. Burial will be held the following day at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood.
